A competition in collaboration with the Municipality of Favignana in Sicily aiming at making the most of a remarkable site in order to transform Santa Caterina Fortress, an ancient prison,  into one of the most suggestive centers of contemporary art.

The fortress of Santa Caterina stands over the peak of Favignana, an isle set at the heart of the Mediterranean Sea. It appears as a real jewel of solitude supported by bold and powerful geometries sculpted by the marine erosion.

The architectural intervention aims to mark its presence and by the same integrate itself as a vertical extension of  the strong geological feature of Favignana

the white dress comes as a frame surrounding the fortress and hovering above the peak, setting up a base podium to artists and visitors to make it alive

the internal space works as an open gallery workshop with a possibility to compartment it in a flexible way to fit different uses, such as meeting spaces, cafe, events ...etc while the top part ends the existing pedestrian path leading to the fortress in a 360° view balcony overlooking the sea.
